Any professional doctors out there?

My lumph nodes on my right side of my body are swollen. Under my arm, in my neck and on the back of my head. Only on the right side of my body. This has been going on for a while now and it's starting to scare me alittle because they haven't gone away. Also it's felt pretty flemmy in my throat lately. Any professional doctors who can help? Please? :)
Oops I meant lymph nodes, not lumph! lol :)

I'm not a doctor, but I slept at a Holiday Inn last night. d=)

Usually, swollen lymph nodes are a sign of an infection, or your body trying to fight off cancer. Since your throat is "phlegmmy", you most likely are getting allergies, a sore throat, or possibly a sinus or inner ear infection. You probably should go to a doctor, if only for a checkup.

Trusting Doctors

Trusting Doctors

$31.95

For more than a century, the American medical profession insisted that doctors be rigorously trained in medical science and dedicated to professional ethics. Patients revered their doctors as representatives of a sacred vocation. Do we still trust doctors with the same conviction? In Trusting Doctors , Jonathan Imber attributes the development of patients' faith in doctors to the inspiration and influence of Protestant and Catholic clergymen during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He explains that as the influence of clergymen waned, and as reliance on medical technology increased, patients' trust in doctors steadily declined. Trusting Doctors discusses the emphasis that Protestant clergymen placed on the physician's vocation; the focus that Catholic moralists put on specific dilemmas faced in daily medical practice; and the loss of unchallenged authority experienced by doctors after World War II, when practitioners became valued for their technical competence rather than their personal integrity. Imber shows how the clergy gradually lost their impact in defining the physician's moral character, and how vocal critics of medicine contributed to a decline in patient confidence. The author argues that as modern medicine becomes defined by specialization, rapid medical advance, profit-driven industry, and ever more anxious patients, the future for a renewed trust in doctors will be confronted by even greater challenges. Trusting Doctors provides valuable insights into the religious underpinnings of the doctor-patient relationship and raises critical questions about the ultimate place of the medical profession in American life and culture.

Doctors, Honour and the Law

Doctors, Honour and the Law

$80

Medical ethics in Imperial Germany were entangled with professional, legal and social issues. This book shows how doctors' ethical decision-making was led by their notions of male honour, professional politics and a paternalistic doctor-patient relationship rather than concern for patients' interests or the right of the sick to self-determination.

Women Doctors in War

Women Doctors in War

$32.29

In their efforts to utilize their medical skills and training in the service of their country, women physicians fought not one but two male-dominated professional hierarchies: the medical and the military establishments. In the process, they also contended with powerful social pressures and constraints. Throughout "Women Doctors in War," the authors focus on the medical careers, aspirations, and struggles of individual women, using personal stories to illustrate the unique professional and personal challenges female military physicians have faced. Military and medical historians and scholars in women's studies will discover a wealth of new information in "Women Doctors in War."

Doctors Under Hitler

Doctors Under Hitler

$6.33

In this history of medicine and the medical profession in the Third Reich, Michael Kater examines the career patterns, educational training, professional organization, and political socialization of German physicians under Hitler. His discussion ranges widely, from doctors who participated in Nazi atrocities, to those who actively resisted the regime's perversion of healing, to the vast majority whose ideology and behavior fell somewhere between the two extremes. He also takes a chilling look at the post-Hitler medical establishment's problematic relationship to the Nazi past.

Law for Doctors: Principles and Practicalities

It will appeal to all clinical and managerial staff and students who are involved in the delivery of healthcare.

Doctors

Doctors

$13.99

How does medical science advance? Popular historians would have us believe that a few heroic individuals, possessing superhuman talents, lead an unselfish quest to better the human condition. But as renowned Yale surgeon and medical historian Sherwin B. Nuland shows in this brilliant collection of linked life portraits, the theory bears little resemblance to the truth. Through the centuries, the men and women Who have shaped the world of medicine have been not only very human people but also very much the products of their own times and places. Presenting compelling studies of great medical innovators and pioneers, Doctors gives us the extraordinary story of the development of modern medicine -- told through the lives of the physician-scientists whose deeds and determination paved the way. Ranging from the legendary Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, to Andreas Vesalius, whose Renaissance masterwork on anatomy offered invaluable new insight into the human body, to Helen Taussig, founder of pediatric cardiology and co-inventor of the original "blue baby" operation, here is a volume filled with the spirit of ideas and the thrill of discovery. Says The New York Times, "Doctors can be warmly recommended. Dr. Nuland succeeds in bringing his subjects vividly to life, and he leaves you with a much better understanding of what they achieved." From the Trade Paperback edition.
